Delusional Disorder is characterized by at least one month of non-bizarre delusions without other active phase symptoms of schizophrenia. Except for the delusion, the person's functioning is not otherwise impaired.

   

Erotomanic Type

This is characterized by delusions of inflated self-worth, power, knowledge, or a special relationship with someone of a higher status.

 

Jealous Type

Jealous type involves delusions in which the person believe that his or her partner is being unfaithful.

 

Persecutory Type

This type is characterized by delusions in which the person (or someone close to her or him) is being persecuted or ill-treated.

 

Somatic Type

Somatic type involves delusion of having a physical defect or medical problem.

Schizoaffective Disorder is a disturbance in which a mood episode and active phase symptoms of schizophrenia occur together.   The period of occurring mood and psychotic symptoms is preceded or followed by at least two weeks of delusions or hallucinations without prominent mood symptoms.

Schizophrenia involves a disturbance that lasts for at least six months and includes at least one month of active-phase symptoms. The active phases symptoms include two or more of the following:

  • Delusions
  • Hallucinations
  • Disorganized speech
  • Grossly disorganized
  • Catatonic behavior
  • Negatives symptoms (i.e., affective flattening, alogia, or avolition)
