FAQ

When you’re too closed to your situation, it’s hard to see things clearly for what they are. It helps to have an unbiased new set of eyes to see the problems in a new perspective in order to help you solve it. As Einstein put it, “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

No. We don’t tell our clients what to do.  We believe in fostering independent instead of dependency; therefore, we don’t tell our clients what to do.  We also believe changes are more likely to last when you decide them for yourself as well as the act of making the decision fostering confidence and building self-trust.

If you believe therapy is not right for you, then explore our coaching packages to help you get specific instruction and solution to thrive in any specific goal.

It’s a collaborative process. In the beginning your therapist and you will work together to develop goals that you’d like to achieve. Along the way, our therapists will provide support, tips, tools, guidance and suggestion based on their observation regarding to what seems to be working well for you or not in order to help you meet your goals.

For optimal results, we typically start off with weekly session for new clients. It’s difficult to maintain momentum for the desirable outcomes initially if the frequency is any less than that.  The goal is for you to make progress and as you you make progress, you and your therapist will reevaluate the process and decrease the frequency of session as needed. Ultimately, we want to work ourselves out of a job because you no longer need our help.

Certainly not!  At PsychServes, we believe that seeking therapy required strength and courage. Seeking help to resolve your problems is wise, not weak. There’s nothing wrong with seeking additional support from a trained professional.  You probably don’t have a problem going to see a kidney doctor, why is it a problem to go see a doctor for head or heart issues? That said, our therapists are strength-based oriented. We believe you’re strong, resilient with the ability and capacity to take on the challenge of facing your issues and deals with it heads on.  Our job is to provide additional support and tools to strengthen what’s already in you.

Some people do choose to only take medication; however, medication alone is not a long term solution for mental and emotional issues. Psychological and emotional issues are complex, having multiple causes and they cannot be solved solely by medication. In some cases,  a combination of medication and therapy is needed and we do encourage our clients to consider that treatment approach for greater relief.

On average, we typically charge $250 for the initial assessment and $200 per session thereafter.  However, we have doctors with various levels of experience, expertise and rates.  All payments are due at the end of each session unless you and your therapist have made a different arrangement such as upfront payment for the month. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards.

Yes. Our doctors are encouraged to provide pro-bono services.  In certain cases of financial hardship, our doctors may be able to  work with you on the fee to get you the help you need.

We accept all PPO’s as an out-of-network provider.  Some of our providers are also in network with some insurance companies (Aetna, Anthem, Cigna,  First Health, Humana, Kaiser, MHN, Tricare, Beacon, United Health, Optum); however, it’s your responsibility to ensure that you have mental health coverage as each insurance is different.  You can check by asking the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • What is my co-pay?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
  • Is pre-authorization required?
  • What percentage of the cost will be covered when I see an out of network provider?

Additionally, if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or “flex account” through your employer, you may be able to receive reimbursement from that account.

Think of it as going from “good” to “great.”  For example, Kobe Bryant was great at basketball and Tiger Woods was a great golfer but they had coaches to help them take it to the next level of development and be phenomenal.

Once again, you can call us at (213) 842-4582 and request for coaching sessions with one of our certified coaches.

The psychologist meets with you to do the testing, once the testing is finished, a report will be generated based on given test scores and interpretation.  In most cases, you’ll meet with the psychologist again where s/he explain to you their finding and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

The cost varies depends on how long, how complex and how many tests we’d need to use.  The general range for psychological evaluation breakdown as follows:
