Dr. Kirklin’s approach is of an active Psychotherapist and Life Coach. She’s extremely committed to the therapeutic process of every person she works with. She works collaboratively to help create specific goals you would like to achieve and then develop a detailed, step-by-step path to reach them. She provides a “sauna for your feelings,” a safe space and container for you to step away from your life to reflect, release and re-align.

Typically, she starts off the session with a simple meditation to open up the hearts and get present with one another and then set clear focus on the intentions of the session. Sometimes clients just want to talk about what has been going on for them, and process their thoughts and feelings, other times they want to be more proactive towards problem solving. Each week Dr. Kirklin explores with you on your progress and obstacles. She tends to spend less time focusing on your past, and more time enhancing your “now” to create your future. In the end, if you are ready, able and willing to make changes in your life, the ultimate intention is to connect more deeply with yourself, to be aware of what is going on within, and together she can help develop healthy strategies to help you deal with difficult feelings, improve your relationships, and re-align with your deeper wisdom and self-love.

Brief Bio

Originally licensed in Mexico as a psychologist with 21+ years of experience, Dr. Kirklin holds a Doctoral Degree in Psychology from Mexico (ITESO/UNIVA), a master’s degree in clinical psychology from California Lutheran University, a second doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, with emphasis in Depth Psychology (Jungian Psychology) from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She’s currently pursuing her California licensure for Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); and is a registered psychological assistant working under the supervision of Dr. Shaelyn Pham.

She is well-versed in psychological testing for children and adults, performing evaluations in both English and Spanish, mainly for the treatment of autism spectrum disorders, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, advocating for school aged-children in IEP’s school meetings; ADHD; perinatal mood and anxiety disorders; psychotic and personality disorders; forensic; and mood and anxiety disorders that interfere with academic, vocational, personal, and social functioning. She also provides psychological immigration assessments (cartas de inmigración). Dr. Kirklin has many years of experience providing clinical services to multiple populations, school-age children and adolescents, transitional age youth, elders and adults with severe mental illnesses (psychiatric hospitalization), co-occurring disorders, such as developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders, and forensic involvement; acculturation; trauma; domestic violence; victims of crime; geriatric neuropsychological care and evaluations (Alzheimer’s, dementias, TBI’s); and traumatic brain injuries, providing individual, family, couples and group therapy. Additionally, she has worked in different social services and clinical settings, out of which four years within the Regional Center system, working with children and adults with developmental disabilities (Mental Retardation,
Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Cerebral Palsy). And, seven plus years in the Ventura and San Luis Obispo and San Diego county mental health system as a mental health professional helping the Hispanic population suffering from the effects of acculturation and other mental health disorders as well as forensically involved adolescents within the Juvenile Justice System. She held various therapy groups at CalPoly helping parents help their adolescent
children under probation within the juvenile system, and provided case management consultation in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.

Prior to re-locating the United States, she was the owner and director of the Integral Center for Psychological Support (In Spanish, Centro Integral de Apoyo para Diagnóstico y Tratamiento Psicológicos – CIAP). She had the opportunity to provide workshops nationwide, appeared on the local television program “Salud y Vida” addressing mental health issues and addictions in Adolescents and Adults; directed a major longitudinal research study with 650
high school adolescents on the facilitating factors for drug and alcohol dependence; and she was also a guest expert at radio talk shows in México. She has written a series of Spanish articles under the title “Anatomía del Espíritu” (Anatomy of the Spirit) which addressed holistic methods for balancing one’s chakras and other spiritual healing techniques.

Finally, in 2011, she appeared in the Documentary Film by Paul Perry titled “Near-Death Experience: What Happens When We Die.” In this internationally renowned documentary where Dr. Raymond Moody Jr., (Book: Life After Life) and Dr. Jeffrey Long, she had the opportunity to describe her Near-Death Experience (NDE) story of 1982, where she suffered an accident in which she briefly died and was then revived. Her doctoral dissertation study addressed the aftereffects of the Near-Death Experience. She’s also one of the founder members of the American Center for the Integration of Spiritually Transformative Experiences (ACISTE); and being an active member and a regular guest speaker at the Los Angeles, San Diego and the Bay Area IANDS (International Association of Near-Death Studies).
